Made of solid brass, this bookend has the shape of Japanese old-style weights which were used for scaling silk and silver currency in the Edo period. This shape is still alive in Japanese maps as the symbol for banks. It's exceptionally heavy and has a felt-lined bottom to protect whatever surface they are used on.
